Hollow Earth Expedition goes live action at Gencon

Gencon was last week, and while the RPG hall was full of awesomeness (and amazing lego miniatures), but what really blew me away was the game going on in the Omni hotel. This game adapted the table-top rules for live action including costumes, props, and– of course– lots of nerf guns.

This event was orchestrated by the masterminds of Grand Guignol Games, who set this year’s story on Mars. I wish you could have seen it in person because the camera in my phone didn’t do justice to the red lighting of the Red Planet

The story involved a crashed rocket containing a Hollywood film crew, the ship’s crew, and employees of the company who sent them there.

They find Mars to be a harsh, cold environment

They featured a selection of nerf weaponry sure to appeal to even the most discriminating trigger finger.

The explorers were ready for action.

The actress laments the lack of adoring fans awaiting her on this strange new world.

Brains and brawn must work together to survive the first run-in with the natives.

Strategy is required for survival.

The ship’s captain remained unflappable, come what may.

The heroic and inventive gamemaster staff made it all possible.

Thanks to the amazing people at Grand Guignol Games for bringing this to life! Here’s hoping that we’ll see a new sequel next year!
